TURKINGTON ANNOUNCES HIMSELF AT THE FRONT AT ANGLESEY

Career-best fourth-place qualifying and fifth-place finish mark a significant step forward in his 2026 Fiesta Junior Championship campaign.

14th June 2026

  • Lewis Turkington delivered his strongest performance to date in the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship at Anglesey Circuit over the weekend of 13–14 June, demonstrating front-running pace and securing career-best qualifying and race results during the third event of the 2026 season.
  • Saturday proved to be a breakthrough day for the young driver. In a highly competitive qualifying session, Lewis stunned the paddock by securing fourth place on the grid, comfortably his best qualifying performance since joining the championship.
  • Carrying that momentum into the opening race, Lewis produced a mature and assured drive to remain firmly in the battle at the front of the field. After a red flag interruption, a race restart and safety car, he crossed the line in fifth position, recording a career-best finish and securing valuable championship points.

SUNDAY RACES

  • The strong start to the weekend placed Lewis in an excellent position heading into Sunday’s two races.
  • Unfortunately, a small mistake on the exit of Turn 3 on the opening lap forced Lewis onto the grass, causing him to lose several positions and drop down the order. Refusing to give up, he mounted an impressive recovery drive, carving his way back through the field and climbing as high as ninth place.
  • However, disappointment struck on the penultimate lap when a puncture, believed to be the result of earlier contact, developed at the final corner and ended what had been a remarkable comeback drive.
  • The retirement left Lewis starting the weekend’s final race from 24th position on the grid. Once again, he showed strong racecraft and determination, making significant progress through the field in the early stages. Unfortunately, further contact forced him off the circuit and compromised his race, with Lewis ultimately taking the chequered flag in 20th place.

STAYING POSITIVE AND LOOKING AT THE PROGRESS

While Sunday’s results did not reflect the pace shown throughout the weekend, Lewis remains positive about the experience gained and the lessons learned.

Reflecting on the weekend, Lewis said:

“Saturday showed what we’re capable of. Qualifying fourth and finishing fifth was a huge confidence boost and proof that we’re moving in the right direction. Sunday’s mistake in Race Two was a small one but unfortunately a costly one as it ultimately cost us the chance of three strong finishes, but motorsport as a Junior is all about learning and improving. I’ve taken a lot away from the weekend and I’m determined not to make the same mistake again.

“Even with the setbacks, there were plenty of positives. We showed great pace, made up a lot of positions in both races on Sunday and continued to learn every time we went out on track. I can’t wait for Donington Park now and I’m focused on turning strong qualifying performances into three strong points-scoring finishes.”

STEP FORWARD

Despite the frustrations of Sunday, Anglesey represented a significant step forward for Lewis. His career-best qualifying result and first top-five finish demonstrated the pace and potential required to compete at the sharp end of the Fiesta Junior Championship field. This marks a huge step for the inexperienced teenager who has came from running at the back, now to the front.

With confidence growing and valuable experience gained, attention now turns to the next championship round at Donington Park in July, where Lewis will look to build on the encouraging progress shown in North Wales and convert his speed into a consistent haul of championship points.
