TEENAGE TALENT LEWIS TURKINGTON CELEBRATES A LANDMARK 2ND PLACE FINISH AT SILVERSTONE
21st September 2026
GSF Junior Car Parts Junior racing driver achieved a long awaited motorsport milestone yesterday, securing his first ever car racing podium with a superb second-place finish in the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship at Silverstone Circuit, his home event.
- Originally from Portadown in Northern Ireland, teenage Lewis relocated with his family to a new home just 20 minutes from Silverstone in 2019 when he was only 9 years old.
- The result on Sunday capped a memorable weekend for the young racer, who had shown strong pace from the outset on Friday testing in one of the most competitive junior fields in the UK and Europe.
- With 29 fiercely competitive juniors taking to the grid, Lewis qualified sixth on Saturday before matching that position in the opening race. The race saw him embroiled in a six-car battle for the lead, with the drivers repeatedly swapping positions throughout the contest.
SHOWING HIS CLASS
It was in the weekend’s second race that Lewis produced his breakthrough performance. Starting from sixth, he made an immediate impact, gaining two places off the line before relentlessly working his way towards the front of the field. Slicing through the pack and joining the battle for the lead, Lewis fought his way into second and spent the closing stages challenging for victory.
Despite aa strong charge for the lead, he finished the race in second place, due to a red flag ending the race a couple of minutes erly, securing his debut podium in car racing and prompting huge celebrations from his family, team and supporters.
For Lewis, the achievement carried an added significance. He spent all his childhood on the sidelines watching his father, four-time BTCC Champion and BMW racing driver Colin Turkington, compete. Lewis always dreamed of one day having the opportunity to race himself.
GETTING THE OPPORTUNITY
That opportunity finally came in 2022, when Lewis began competing in a handful of Autograss events. He continued to develop his racing in the grassroots discipline before making the step into circuit racing. 2026 has been his first full season of car racing in the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship.
MAGIC MOMENT
For Lewis, to achieve his first podium at Silverstone, with his dad there to watch and others who have watched him grow up, made the moment particularly special. Speaking immediately after the race to the BRSCC Live stream, Lewis described the achievement as “the best day of my life”, while expressing his gratitude to everyone who had helped him reach the grid and supported his racing journey.
The result also made Lewis one of the most popular podium finishers of the season, with an outpouring of support from fellow competitors, family, friends and fans celebrating the breakthrough moment.
For a driver who began his racing career in Autograss just a few years years ago, a first podium at his home circuit represents a significant milestone, and a memorable new chapter in the Turkington racing story.
Lewis Turkington:
“It was honestly the best day of my life. I’m so grateful to everyone who has helped me get here and given me the opportunity to be on the grid. To get my first podium at Silverstone, my home circuit, with my dad there watching and supporting me, is something I’ll never forget. It’s been a huge journey to get here, and I’ve never stopped working at my progression. This moment has made all the hard work worth it and I am so happy. This really is only the beginning for me and I can promise you I will work harder than anyone ever has done to achieve my dreams.”
