LEWIS DELIVERS BREAKTHROUGH PERFORMANCE AT SILVERSTONE GP
CAREER BEST RESULTS AND STRATEGIC THINKING MARK LEWIS AS RAPIDLY RISING STAR
- Junior racing driver Lewis Turkington enjoyed a hugely encouraging race day in his team GSF Car Parts Fiesta at the iconic Silverstone Grand Prix circuit, showcasing pace, composure and a racing brain beyond his years.
- The weekend marked an exciting new chapter for Lewis, who took to the track in his striking new GSF Car Parts livery after officially announcing the partnership on Friday morning.
- Despite suffering a mechanical issue that affected performance throughout qualifying, Lewis battled hard to secure a career-best starting position of 10th place on the grid, a major milestone.
- Race one unfortunately brought further frustration as the same exhaust-related issue returned, significantly hampering straight-line speed around one of the fastest circuits on the calendar. Nevertheless, Lewis drove maturely and consistently to secure his best-ever race finish in the championship of 10th, underlining both his speed and determination.
STANDING TALL AMONGST THE REST
The standout moment of the weekend came in the final race of the day as changing weather conditions opened up the opportunity for a strategic gamble. Demonstrating confidence and exceptional awareness, Lewis became the only driver in the field to pit for wet tyres on the green flag lap.
FASTEST LAP, NOT ENOUGH TIME
Lewis immediately set the fastest lap of the race — running over ten seconds per lap quicker than the rest of the field as conditions worsened. Unfortunately, a lengthy safety car period and a heavily broken-up pack on the restart left him with only a handful of racing laps remaining, denying him the opportunity to fully convert his pace into the result his performance deserved.
RAPIDLY RISING TALENT
While the final classification failed to reflect his true potential, the weekend firmly established Lewis as one of the championship’s rising talents. His brave strategic call and composed execution demonstrated a maturity and racing instinct that marks him out as a driver destined for big things in the future.
NEXT UP
Lewis will return to the seat of his GSF Car Parts Fiesta on Saturday 23rd May for a test at Kent’s Brands Hatch Indy circuit before his next 3 race event at Anglesey on June 12/13/14.
