LEWIS SUCESSFULLY HOSTS FIRST DDF CLUB EVENT AT WHILTON MILL
29th May 2026
- The Lewis Turkington Driving Dyslexia Forward Club officially launched yesterday at Whilton Mill Karting Centre with a fantastic day of karting, motorsport, sunshine and community spirit.
- People travelled from all over the country to attend the special event, which brought together young people, families and motorsport enthusiasts in support of creating opportunities and confidence for those with dyslexia.
- On display throughout the day were Lewis Turkington’s BRSCC Fiesta Junior race car alongside his brother Adam Turkington’s British Autograss Series race car, giving visitors a chance to get up close to the machinery and speak with the family about their racing journeys.
- The on-track action saw Lewis host two qualifying sessions and two exciting finals around the Whilton Mill circuit. For many attendees, it was their very first experience behind the wheel of a kart, making the day even more memorable. Despite the scorching sunshine and hot conditions, spirits remained high as drivers took to the grid, made new friends and gained confidence throughout the event.
PRIZES
Trophies, Oakley sunglasses and Power Maxed podium hats were awarded to the top three finishers in each final, with plenty of smiles and celebrations throughout the paddock.
Away from the racing, the event became a wonderful opportunity for families and young people to meet others, share ideas, experiences and stories surrounding dyslexia and motorsport in a welcoming and supportive environment.
The day concluded with lunch and a series of special talks, including words from Lewis’s mum Louise Turkington and BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship Coordinator Edther Crook, both of whom spoke passionately about encouraging young people and using motorsport as the environment to encourage them to find their strengths.
HEARING FROM LEWIS
The event finished with an engaging Q&A session featuring Lewis and four-time British Touring Car Champion Colin Turkington, hosted by Aimee Watts. The pair shared stories from their motorsport journeys in an inspiring and relaxed atmosphere.
Speaking after the event, Lewis said:
“This was exactly what we hoped the club would be about, bringing people together, building confidence and showing that dyslexia should never stop anyone chasing their goals. Seeing people who had never even sat in a kart before out on track enjoying themselves was brilliant. I think that’s what we need to do with these events, to encourage young people to try new things!”
The successful launch marks the beginning of an exciting journey for the Lewis Turkington Driving Dyslexia Forward Club, with plans already underway for future events and activities.
A huge thank you goes to everyone who attended, supported and helped make the day such a success.
