Lewis Turkington returned to his BRSCC 20 Ten Racing Fiesta Junior over the weekend after the completion of his GCSE exams.

Securing three finishes in changeable conditions, Lewis showed great steps of improvement despite his best result being 21st out of 29 race cars.
- With big steps being taken, and milestones reached, Lewis is hopeful he can show what he can do at the next event at home circuit Silverstone on August 16 and 17.

“I enjoyed a brilliant two days testing in the glorious sunshine before the event. The weather brought with it a HUGE learning curve for me in the wet (I’d only been out once before on a circuit for a wet session at Blyton) so I had to learn fast.
Overall I brought it home with three finishes, and a best result of P21 from 29 starters. My biggest weakness in race 1 was my start and lap one. From there i got faster and faster. I felt a made a big step forwards in race 2 with this but unfortunate incidents in front of me tripped me back a few spots. I was then in a great battle for most of the race only to take turn 1 too hot and run off the circuit rejoining with a mechanical issue. Race 3 was a very daunting experience in very wet conditions – much wetter than qualifying was. This is where I need more practise and laps.
I have to say I learnt so so much, and with the car running brilliantly it was my first proper race weekend on a circuit. A big moment in my journey. This feels like a great launchpad for me now to go forwards, take bigger steps and believe in myself. It is only the beginning for me compared to my competitors and if, from sitting beside me in the car, my Dad thinks I have what it takes to be there, I just need to start believing it too.
I can’t wait until Silverstone National in less than two weeks time and am looking forward to having my uncle James (TCR UK Champion) helping me over that weekend. 😊
